About Me
Hi, my name is Thorsten. That is Swedish and means “the stone of Thor.” But I ain’t Swedish, I was born and raised in west Germany. I lived, worked and studied in different parts of the world and became an Asia specialist, a philosophical writer and a cultural critic.
Over the last 14 years, I have written and published extensively about Global language, the Competition for terminologies, and the End of translation. I am actively promoting Confucianism, in particular Chinese terminologies, on a global scale. I attended Edinburgh University, Fudan University, Tokyo University, and Harvard University, and earned my doctorate degree from The Institute of World Literature at Peking University. In Beijing I studied under the guiding stars of Ji Xianlin, Gu Zhengkun, and Tu Weiming, who I considers my spiritual masters. Later I became a former Research Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Humanistic Studies. During my stay, I composed four monographs: ‘The East-West dichotomy,’ ‘Shengren,’ ‘Holy Confucius,’ and ‘Inside Peking University.’ I also published over 25 essays, some of which are: ‘Language hegemony – It’s shengren, stupid!,’ ‘Long into the West’s dragon business,’ ‘China: Lost in Translation,’ ‘The end of translation,’ and ‘Philosophy is a Syndicate.’ I contributed opinion pieces to many international media outlets and websites, including Asia Times, China Daily, Global Times (Huanqiu Shibao), Guangming Daily, Global Research, Corbett Report, China Today, Beijing Review, PKU Campus Magazine (Cijian), Shanghai Daily, Straits Times, Compact Magazine, Die Zeit (German Times), Korea Herald, Korea Times, Seoul Times, Taipei Times, South China Morning Post, Southern Weekly, Macau Post, People’s Daily, Big Think, Polemix, Global South, Think in China, China Rising, Global Asia, China News Stories, Dao Insights, DeTao Master Class, Unz Review, The Saker, American Renaissance, Foreign Policy, PI Politik Spezial, Diplomacy Post, The Frontier Post, Thought Catalog, Dissident Voice, Counter Currents, New Delhi Times, Pakistan Daily Mail, Independent Australia, GQ British, The Telegraph, The Diplomat, BRICS Magazine, RT Russia, Beijing BTV, Guancha Network, Asia One, CCTV, Japan Today, and The Japan Times.
